Der Fonds ist eine globale, wachstumsorientierte Private-Equity-Strategie, die auf Investitionen in Unternehmen mit Fokus auf innovativen Umwelt- und Klimawandel-Lösungen abzielt.

Er konzentriert sich auf fünf Themen, die den Ansatz von Goldman Sachs in Bezug auf den Klimawandel stützen – saubere Energie, nachhaltiger Transport, Abfälle und Materialien, nachhaltige Lebensmittel sowie Landwirtschaft und Ökosystemdienstleistungen. Diese Themen repräsentieren Sektoren, in denen Goldman Sachs Chancen auf einen nachhaltigen Nachfrage- und Wachstumsanstieg bei kostengünstigen Lösungen sieht, die Unternehmen zur Erfüllung von Nachhaltigkeitszielen benötigen.

Der Fonds wird von der 2020 gegründeten Sustainable Investing Group innerhalb von Goldman Sachs verwaltet. Die Anlageexperten der Sustainable Investing Group verfügen über jahrzehntelange Erfahrung mit nachhaltigen Anlagen und sind bestrebt, mithilfe der umfangreichen Ressourcen der Plattform von Goldman Sachs differenzierte Investitionen ausfindig zu machen und die Wertschöpfung für Portfoliogesellschaften zu beschleunigen.

Horizon Climate wird durch ein proprietäres Unternehmensnetzwerk unterstützt, das führende Köpfe in puncto Nachhaltigkeit aus globalen Konzernen zusammenbringt, um über Nachhaltigkeitsanforderungen und -lösungen zu diskutieren. Dies verschafft dem Fonds einzigartige thematische Einblicke und verhilft ihm zu einem besseren Verständnis der Ziele von Unternehmen auf ihrem Nachhaltigkeitspfad. Der Fonds nutzt ebenfalls die firmeneigene Betriebsplattform von Goldman Sachs, den GS Value Accelerator, um gemeinsam mit Portfoliogesellschaften langlebiges Geschäft aufzubauen und Wertzuwachs zu erzielen.

Der Fonds arbeitet eng mit Managementteams zusammen, um positive Veränderungen zu bewirken, und berichtet über den Impact der einzelnen Portfoliogesellschaften und des gesamten Fonds. Er ist gemäß Artikel 9 der Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation eingestuft.

Horizon Climate hat zwölf Portfoliogesellschaften, die bei Klima- und Umweltinnovationen führend sind, bereits rund eine Milliarde US-Dollar bereitgestellt. Diese Investments erstrecken sich über Märkte in Nordamerika und Europa und umfassen unter anderem führende Hersteller von Lithium-Ionen Akkus, nachhaltigen Verpackungsmaterialien und hochwertigen recycelten Baumwollfasern sowie Unternehmen, die sich für eine effiziente Wassernutzung in der Landwirtschaft und Steigerung der Energieeffizienz in Gewerbe- und Industriegebäuden einsetzen.(2)

Der Fonds übertraf das anfängliche Fundraising-Ziel und erreichte schließlich 1,6 Milliarden US-Dollar, einschließlich Zusagen einiger der weltweit größten und erfahrensten Investoren.

Goldman Sachs unterstützt nachhaltiges Wirtschaftswachstum und entsprechende Finanzierungsmöglichkeiten. Dies ist der Grundstein für die Aktivitäten von Goldman Sachs auf dem Weg zur Klimaneutralität, die Wachstumskapital zur Förderung des Übergangs zu einer kohlenstoffärmeren Wirtschaft erfordern. Das Unternehmen hat sich in Bezug auf nachhaltige Finanzierungen ein 10-Jahres-Ziel von 750 Milliarden US-Dollar bis 2030 gesetzt.
